- The air brake system is self-sufficient and there is no need to maintain, check or fill fluid levels.
- Air is unlimited so the brake system can never run out of its operating fluid unlike hydraulic fluid.
- Air line couplings are easier to attach and detach than hydraulic lines. This eliminates the risk of air getting into hydraulic fluid.
- Air is not only used for operating valves and S cams, but also stores potential energy in the air tank. This is important if the compressor fails as the air tank will still contain sufficient air to stop the truck.
- Can still work even with considerable leakage.
